Margaret Wiener is a cultural anthropologist. Her interest in dogs and their people was piqued when she met her first Balinese dog, Morris, whose humans picked up that exotic American name from TV. She was in Bali researching her first prize-winning book about Balinese ideas of power. Wiener has recently finished a book on the role the idea of magic has played in establishing differences between “the West and the rest,” while beginning to work on relations between humans and other species. She lives with an elderly dog named Mojo.
