Jim Hirschfield is a Professor in the Department of Art and Art History who began contemplating the experience of time during his travels through the deserts of the southwest in his VW Microbus. He still treasures the experience of travel (put on hold for a few years during the pandemic) and travels for his artworks, for his research, and for adventure. Jim has received a number of art commissions from cities across the country: From Anchorage, Alaska to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and from San Diego, California to Orono, Maine. He has also received numerous awards for his art installations, which he describes as explorations in meditative and ethereal environments that expand our perceptions of time.
