Writing at the Research University
Description
ENGL 105 introduces students to academic writing across the disciplines of natural sciences, social sciences or business, and humanities. The course develops advanced writing skills that focus on identifying how genres, styles of writing, arguments, and forms of evidence differ across disciplines, audiences, and purposes. Studying and practicing the conventions of writing in different disciplines will help you to become a more versatile writer, which in turn will help you in other college courses.
ENGL 105i is a specialized version of the standard ENGL 105 course that allows you to focus on a discipline that interests you – perhaps an area linked to your major or future profession. The following versions of ENGL 105i are currently offered:
- Writing in the Digital Humanities
- Writing in the Natural Sciences
- Writing in the Social Sciences
- Writing in the Humanities
- Writing in the Health Sciences
- Writing in Business
- Writing in Law
ENGL 105i is recommended if you already know what major you plan to declare or what profession you hope to join and/or you are an Honor’s student or transfer student.
