I am a Teaching Professor and Academic Advisor in the Environment, Ecology, and Energy Program (E3P). I started working at Carolina in 2009 after completing my PhD in Marine Science at NC State University. I specialize in marine and restoration ecology and have been fortunate to work in some amazing ecosystems including coral reefs in the Bahamas and Australia, mangroves in the Florida Keys, saltmarshes in New Jersey and Delaware, estuaries in North Carolina, and restored forests in Appalachia. I am a big fan of experiential learning and offer practical field courses in coastal conservation where we travel to Tampa Bay, restoration ecology where students do research for local clients, drone remote sensing where students get to fly and collect environmental data, and a study abroad program to Australia where students assist conservation organizations. I have a wife, Meredith who is a meteorologist and three young children: Brandon, Hadley, and Noah. My hobbies include woodworking, doing house renovations, fly drones, competing in CrossFit and Spartan races, and riding my motorcycle.
